New Delhi: Leakage from an Oil India Ltd (OIL) refinery in the Dandewala area in Jaisalmer continued for the fourth straight day on Saturday, putting at risk the lives of villagers who are situated only a few kilometres away from the oil refinery. Sources said that the leakage in the refinery, which adjoins the India-Pakistan border, began as a result of a technical problem in a casing pipe.
Although gas has been leaking from oil well number 2 of the refinery has not been contained for four days, efforts are underway to control the situation by Saturday evening. As per media reports, Oil and Natural Gas Corp (ONGC) has been called in to control the leakage.
Production for gas supply to the Ramgarh power plant was underway at the refinery when the leakage began. The gas was being produced at tubing pipes as the pressure of gas leakage was 90kg.
In a similar incident that took place in October 2015, gas leakage continued for almost 10 days after it was first detected from an OIL well at the Dandewala area. There were other leakages in the refinery in 2015, 2017 and the last year.
