New Delhi: Union Chemicals and Fertilizers Minister DV Sadananda Gowda has said that the Department of Fertilizers under his Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilisers is making all the efforts to ensure an adequate supply of fertilizers for the upcoming Kharif season. In a tweet, Gowda said that as of now, availability position is comfortable.
The minister said that the government is committed to supplying an adequate quantity of fertilizers to farmers and on time. The Department of Fertilizers is closely monitoring the production, movement and availability of fertilizers, and is in regular touch with state governments and the Railways Ministry. Referring to Karnataka in a separate tweet, the Minister said, "As far as Karnataka is concerned, there is no shortage of seeds, fertilizers and pesticides in the state. We are working in close coordination with the Karnataka government on this matter. As of now, the state has a stock of 7.3 lakh tons against a monthly requirement of 2.57 lakh tons."
National Fertilizers Limited, a PSU under the Department of Fertilizers also said in a tweet that their plants at Nangal, Bathinda, Panipat, and Vijaipur are operating at full capacity. Urea is being regularly despatched to the market for the benefit of the farming community, it added. The employees of National Fertilizers Limited (NFL) have contributed a day's salary amounting to Rs 88 lakh to the Prime Minister's citizen assistance and relief in emergency situations (PM CARES) Fund to fight the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic in the country. Prior to this, the company had already contributed an amount of Rs 63.94 lakh under corporate social responsibility (CSR) towards the PM CARES Fund for the same objective. With this, the total amount contributed by the company to the above fund stands at Rs 1.52 crore.
