New Delhi: While emphasising the need for India to focus more on hydropower, the Chairman of state-run National Hydropower Corporation (NHPC), Balraj Joshi, made a pitch for easing the clearance process to develop hydropower projects, sought long-term soft loans and an effective partnership with state governments. Joshi delivered a keynote address at the 16th Annual Conference on hydropower in India on January 22 in Le Meridien in the capital.

Exuding a positive outlook on the sector in the wake of the infusion of RE in the grid in immediate future, Joshi shared NHPC's views on the current state of the hydropower sector and highlighted key issues and concerns impacting the growth of the sector.
