IGL hikes CNG price by Re 1 in Delhi

The CNG price has been raised to offset the impact of a 10 percent rise in the price of natural gas announced by the government on March 29

PSU Watch Bureau

New Delhi: Starting February 4, compressed natural gas (CNG) and Piped Natural Gas (PNG) became costlier in Delhi and the national capital region (NCR) as Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) hiked the price for the sixth time in the last 12 months. While in Delhi, CNG can be availed at Rs 45.70 per kg, PNG will be available at Rs 30.50/- per SCM. The probability of a rise in the price was reported by PSU Watch six days before it has been announced.

The price has been raised to offset the impact of a 10 percent rise in the price of natural gas announced by the government on March 29. The hike is, however, set to impact the fares of auto, bus and taxis ahead of the 2019 General Elections. IGL, on its part, said that the increase would have a 'marginal' impact on the per-km running cost of vehicles. But a rise in fares cannot be ruled out.

The tariffs

In Delhi, CNG has become costlier by Re 1. In Noida, Greater Noida and Ghaziabad, CNG would cost Rs Rs 51.95 per Kg and PNG would cost Rs 30.00 per SCM. In Gurugram and Rewari, the new price of CNG would be Rs 57.50 per kg, while PNG would be Rs 30.55 per SCM.
