New Delhi: India and Bangladesh have signed an agreement for the implementation of a project to import LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas) from Bangladesh for distribution in the North-Eastern states. The pact was one of the seven agreements signed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Bangladesh counterpart Sheikh Hasina on Saturday.
The agreements were signed after Modi and Hasina held wide-ranging conversations and discussed deeper cooperation between the two countries in areas of water resources, youth affairs, culture, education and coastal surveillance.
"I am happy that today's talks will further energise our bilateral ties," Modi said in the presence of Bangladesh PM.
In a media statement, Modi said that India accords priority to its ties with Bangladesh and increasing cooperation between the two neighbouring countries should be model for the entire world.
In her remarks, Hasina said ties between the two countries have been on an upswing in the last few years, including in areas of maritime security, civil nuclear energy and trade. The Bangladesh PM arrived in India on a four-day visit on October 3. This is her first visit to India since parliamentary elections were held in Bangladesh and India.
