New Delhi: Japan Ambassador to India Satoshi Suzuki visited the Delhi Metro system on Tuesday. Suzuki was accompanied by DMRC's Managing Director (MD) Mangu Singh along with other senior officials in his journey on the Metro from Central Secretariat till Chawri Bazaar.

The journey concluded with a visit to Patel Chowk where the delegation took a guided tour of the Metro Museum. The first three phases of the Delhi Metro were funded substantially with the help from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
A few days back, German Chancellor Angela Merkel also paid a visit to DMRC. She visited DMRC's first rooftop solar power plant which was installed with the help of German organisation Gesellschaftfür Internationale Zusammenarbeit at Dwarka Sector – 21 metro station.

The Delhi Metro was set up jointly by the central government and the government of Delhi in May 1995 when the Delhi CM was Madan Lal Khurana. Total groundwork and planning were done in the subsequent three years and construction started in 1998, just when Sheila Dikshit took over as the CM.
