New Delhi: The top decision-making body at the Telecom Department has decided to ask the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) to revisit its recommendations on 5G spectrum allocation after the industry raised pricing-related concerns. The decision was taken at a meeting of the Digital Communications Commission (DCC) which met on Thursday.

The Commission also gave its nod to the terms and conditions for 5G trials in the country, sources said.

'Govt wants TRAI to keep in mind the objective of Digital India'

Sources aware of the development said that DCC members were of the opinion that TRAI should revisit its recommendations keeping in mind the government's overall objective of Digital India and broadband for all.

'Intense consolidation in the sector should be addressed'

The sources added that the body also wants TRAI to ensure adequate competition in the telecom sector which has in recent times seen intense consolidation. The Commission comprises of officials from Niti Aayog, Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade, Department of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Electronics and IT, besides Department of Telecom.
