Time to adopt new technologies for exploration: Coal Secretary

New Delhi: State-run Maharatna PSU Coal India Limited (CIL), under the administrative control of the Ministry of Coal, in association with Central Mine Planning & Design Institute (CMPDI), a fully-owned subsidiary of CIL, has organised a workshop on "Modern Exploration Technologies for Coal & Lignite Sector to expedite current pace of Exploration," under the aegis of the Ministry of Coal. The workshop was inaugurated by the Secretary of Ministry of Coal Anil Kumar Jain (IAS) on December 25 in SCOPE Complex, New Delhi.

While speaking on the inaugural session of the workshop Coal Secretary emphasis on the use of modern technologies for the exploration. He said that the need of the hour is to shift from present exploration methods and to adopt new technologies to identify areas with proved reserves of coal and lignite.

CMPDI's Chairman & Managing Director (CMD) Shekhar Saran also spoke on the occasion. He emphasised on how 2D and 3D seismic surveys besides other modern technologies available for exploration, can be used for faster exploration of Coal and Lignite and cover more area in a short time.
