HPCL launches campaign for ‘Plastic free Ranchi’

HPCL in association with district administration of Ranchi has launched a campaign to make the city environment plastic free

Ranchi: In line with the government's vision for a cleaner and greener environment, state-run Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL), a Navratna PSU, in association with district administration of Ranchi have launched an awareness campaign to make 'Plastic Free Ranchi'. In the campaign, more than three lakhs school children were participated to mark Swachta Hi Sewa 2019.

As part of Swachhta Hi Seva 2019, a people's movement for cleanliness or Swachhta is being celebrated across the country from September 11 to October 27. The focus of the celebration is to ban single-use plastic and make enjoinment plastic-free. Under the joint initiative with district Administration Ranchi, a unique youth-centric large scale sensitisation program for school children has been undertaken which included 'Shramdaan' for the collection of plastic waste, tree plantation drives, spot quiz and drawing competitions. To propagate 'Say No to Plastic' movement winners of the competitions were awarded metal bottles and cloth bags along with other appreciations.

More than 10000 trees were planted in government schools on this day to make Ranchi Green. On this occasion, Deputy Commissioner, Ranchi exhorted students to actively contribute to making Ranchi plastic-free and also appreciated the efforts of HPCL for supporting the cause of plastic-free Ranchi. Swachhta Hi Sewa (SHS) is being celebrated every year since 2017 to generate awareness and sensitize masses on the importance of cleanliness and their responsibility towards clean India.
