NHAI Chairman Sukhbir Singh Sandhu (IAS) gets tenure extension

The Appointment Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the extension in central deputation tenure of NHAI's Chairman Sukhbir Singh Sandhu (IAS) for a period of six months

New Delhi: National Highways Authority of India's (NHAI) Chairman Sukhbir Singh Sandhu (IAS) has been given an extension on his central deputation tenure. The Appointment Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the extension of his deputation tenure for the second time which was due on January 21, 2021. According to an order from the Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT), the services of Singh have been extended for a period of six months beyond January 21, 2021, i.e up-to July 21, 2021, or until further orders whichever is earlier.

Sandhu is a 1988-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of Uttarakhand cadre. He took over as NHAI Chainman in October 2019. Prior to joining NHAI, Sandhu was serving as Additional Secretary in the Department of Higher Education under the Ministry of Human Resource Development (Now Education Ministry). He has done his MBBS from Government Medical College, Amritsar and Master's Degree in History from Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar and he is also a law graduate.

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is an autonomous agency of the government, set up in 1988 and is responsible for the management of a network of over 50,000 km of National Highways out of 1,15,000 km in India. It is a nodal agency of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.
