NHPC CMD addresses technical session at inter-ministerial conference

New Delhi: The Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of NHPC, Balraj Joshi, addressed a technical session of an inter-ministerial conference on 'Future Strategies for NIRM' at New Delhi on Friday. Joshi gave a special presentation titled 'Rock Mechanics in Hydroelectric Projects' wherein he gave an overview of NHPC's achievements in the field of hydropower and highlighted the importance of understanding rock and rock mass properties in the design of civil structures.

Joshi also cited NHPC case studies in conducting rock mechanics in various projects undertaken by the PSU such as 2,880 MW Dibang Multipurpose Project, 720 MW Mangdechhu Project, 2,000 MW Subansiri Lower Project, 510 MW Teesta –V Power Station, 150 MW Goriganga-IIIA Project etc.

The event was organised by National Institute of Rock Mechanics (NIRM), an autonomous Research Institute under Ministry of Mines. It witnessed participation from important organisations such as Ministry of External Affairs, Ministry of Power, NHPC, NPCIL, Central Water Commission, Hindustan Zinc Ltd etc.
