NHPC CMD inaugurates remote sensing and GIS lab at NHPC

A 'remote sensing and GIS laboratory' has been inaugurated via video conferencing at corporate office of NHPC Limited

New Delhi: A 'remote sensing and GIS (Geographic Information System) laboratory' has been inaugurated via video conferencing at the corporate office of NHPC Limited, India's premier hydropower company by NHPC's Chairman & Managing Director (CMD) AK Singh in presence of all directors and senior officers on Thursday. Speaking on the occasion, Singh said that NHPC has always been committed to the use of modern technologies and this laboratory also shows our corporation's commitment towards the environment and will enable NHPC to monitor and study the environment more effectively through satellite images.

This remote sensing laboratory has been established by the environment and diversity management division of NHPC. The laboratory has been started with the objective of continuously monitoring the environment of all NHPC projects and also carry out research and development work through this medium. Remote sensing is an advanced technology through which the earth's surface and resources are studied by the scientific method without any physical contact. The inauguration was conducted through video conferencing keeping in view the conditions of COVID-19.
