New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the virtual 3rd Global Renewable Energy Investment Meeting and Expo (RE-Invest 2020), on November 26 at 5:30 PM, an official statement said on Tuesday. The summit is organised by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy and will be held from November 26-28. The event was earlier scheduled to be held in October 2019, but it was postponed to 2020 "due to unavoidable circumstances," the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) had said at the time.
The theme for RE-Invest 2020 is 'Innovations for Sustainable Energy Transition.' It will feature a 3-day conference on renewables and future energy choices, and an exhibition of manufacturers, developers, investors and innovators. It is expected to be attended by over 75 international Ministerial delegations, over 1,000 global industry leaders, and 50,000 delegates. "It aims to accelerate the worldwide effort to scale up development and deployment of renewable energy and connect the global investment community with Indian energy stakeholders. It aims to build upon the success of the first two editions held in 2015 and 2018 and provide an international forum for investment promotion in renewable energy," said the statement.
The decision to hold the event virtually was taken in April this year. Commenting on the development, Dr Megha Pushpendra, Lead, Strategic Communication, ISA (International Solar Alliance) had said, "Earlier we were expecting a huge global footprint because ISA is a part of it. And we were expecting that we would have industry delegations from at least 85 ISA member countries. But then because of the COVID situation, we were deliberating whether to carry the event on and make it happen or drop it altogether. But then once we saw the kind of interest that stakeholders have in a unique position that renewable energy has in the ecosystem, we thought that we should not let the dialogue die. And in order to keep the dialogue going, technology step-up was the only solution that was available with all of us. So, this digital platform was envisaged."
