New Delhi: SAIL-Bhilai Steel Plant's Universal Rail Mill has smashed several records on December 3. The new Modex unit that rolls out the world's longest 130-metre rail as a single piece has recorded its highest daily production of 2,619 Tonnes of UTS 90 prime rails on December 3, surpassing the previous record of 2,568 tonnes prime rails production on August 26.
On the same day, the Mill also recorded its best-ever figure of 364 rails through non-destructive testing as against previous best of 355 rails through NDT. Universal Rail Mill (URM) achieved several other day records.
The management of Bhilai Steel Plant has congratulated the collective of URL, the Research & control lab team of the Plant and other central and supporting agencies and departments for the superlative performances recorded on the day.
The SAIL's Bhilai Steel Plant (BSP) is located in Bhilai, the Indian state of Chhattisgarh. It is India's first and main producer of steel rails, as well as a major producer of wide steel plates and other steel products. The plant also produces and markets various chemical by-products from its coke ovens and coal chemical plant. It was set up with the help of the USSR in 1955.
