SECL coal supply surges 25% in the first half of FY’22

New Delhi: South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL), a flagship arm of state-run Coal India Limited (CIL), has supplied 25 percent more coal to the power sector in the first six months of the financial year 2021-22 compared to the corresponding period of last fiscal. SECL said in an official statement issued on Tuesday.

The largest coal producing entity of CIL has increased the supply following a surge in the demand from the power sector across the country. The company spokesperson said SECL had supplied about 25 percent more coal to the power sector between April and September as compared to last year.

The coal supplied by the company through e-auction has also registered an increase of about 30 percent as compared to the last financial year, the spokesperson added.

Following the escalating coal price in the international markets and the industrial production in the country picking up after the easing of COVID-induced lockdown, the demand in the domestic market has increased. Heavy rainfall during the period has severely affected the production and also the dispatch of coal.

Despite the adverse condition, SECL has registered outstanding performance in production and dispatch during the first half of the current fiscal.

With the withdrawal of monsoon, SECL has a big plan in place; accelerating the production and dispatch to ensure the demand of non-power-sector is also fulfilled.
