New Delhi: (PESB Recommendation News) Somnath Nandi is set to be next Director (Technical) of NMDC Limited, a Navratna PSU under the Ministry of Steel. His name has been recommended by the Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) panel on Tuesday. Nandi is an engineering graduate and currently working as Executive Director (ED) in Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL). The post of Director (Technical) of NMDC Limited is vacant since June 1, 2019.
Nandi has been recommended for the post of Director (Technical) of NMDC Limited from list of 10 candidates, who were interviewed by the selection panel. The list had six candidates from NMDC Limited and each from Hindustan Copper Limited (HCL), Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL), Indian Railways and Prism Johnson Limited.
As Director (Technical) of NMDC Limited, Nandi will be a member of the board of directors of the organisation and will report to the Chairman and Managing Director (CMD). He will assist the CMD and will be responsible for project management functions of the company, preparation of detailed project reports, planning and designing, construction and commissioning of the projects, research and development activities, etc.
NMDC Limited, previously known as National Mineral Development Corporation, is a state-controlled mineral producer. It is owned 72.43 percent by the government and is under the administrative control of the Ministry of Steel. It is involved in the exploration of iron ore, copper, rock phosphate, limestone, dolomite, gypsum, bentonite, magnesite, diamond, tin, tungsten, graphite etc. It is India's largest iron ore producer and exporter, producing more than 35 million tons of iron ore from 3 fully mechanised mines in Chhattisgarh and Karnataka. It also operates the only mechanised diamond mine in the country at Panna in Madhya Pradesh.
