JNU Alumni Association: Swadesh Singh elected as General Secretary

Prof Swadesh Singh has been elected as the General Secretary of the Alumni Association of JNU in an election held on March 27, 2022

New Delhi: Prof Swadesh Singh, a Senior Assistant Professor of Political Science at Satyawati College in Delhi University, has been elected as the General Secretary of the Alumni Association (JNU-AA) of JNU in an election held on March 27, 2022. The President, Vice President, Joint Secretary and Treasurer were elected unopposed. However, the election was held for the post of General Secretary.

In the election, Prof Swadesh Singh secured 111 Votes whereas his rival Krishna Nand Maharaj got mere 65 votes. Interestingly both the candidates have a journalism degree from the prestigious Indian Institute of Mass Communication, New Delhi. Singh has worked as a journalist in organisations like BBC and NDTV India and has a PhD from JNU.

The Alumni Association of JNU organises a number of activities like alumni meet, placement and career counselling, alumni lecture series to contribute to enriching the intellectual and academic space of the university. The Vice-Chancellor is the ex officio patron of the association.

The objectives of the society are to uphold the democratic and inclusive traditions of JNU and to strive for their furtherance, through all the activities of AAJ, including the organisation of annual and periodic lectures or seminars or symposia etc. centred around themes that deepen our understanding and appreciation of the values enshrined in the preamble of the university.
