World Environment Day: NHPC to have the biggest EVs fleet among PSUs in India

NHPC Limited will have the biggest electric vehicles (EVs) fleet of 27 EVs among Central Public Sector Undertakings (CPSUs) in India

New Delhi: In a significant step towards environment protection, NHPC Limited has signed E-mobility agreements with the Convergence Energy Services Limited (CESL) a wholly-owned subsidiary of Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) for leasing of 25 nos of electric vehicles (EVs) and supply of 3 nos. of electric vehicle fast chargers to NHPC including its installation and commissioning. NHPC will have the biggest EVs fleet amongst Central Public Sector Undertakings (CPSUs) in India. NHPC had earlier leased 2 no. of electric vehicles through EESL in 2019.

The E-mobility agreements have been signed through video conferencing on June 4. The agreements were signed by NHPC Limited's General Manager (Mechanical) Rajesh Kumar on behalf of NHPC and CGM & Cluster Head (North) of EESL/ CESL Rajneesh Rana on behalf of CESL. NHPC Limited's Director (Personnel) NK Jain, Director (Projects) Biswajit Basu and Chief Vigilance Officer (CVO) AK Srivastava from NHPC and Energy Efficiency Services Limited's (EESL) MD & CEO Mahua Acharya and Executive Vice Chairperson Saurabh Kumar from EESL were present on the occasion. NHPC has signed the E-mobility agreement as a step towards its commitment towards the environment and on eve of celebrating World Environment Day 2021.

Commenting on the e-mobility agreements, AK Singh said, "We are glad to expand our EV fleet by associating with CESL. NHPC is dedicated towards the environment and is committed to contributing towards reducing carbon footprints in the country."

While NK Jain said, "The E-mobility agreement between NHPC and CESL is an important step towards reducing pollution levels and it is fitting that the agreement is being signed between two companies dedicated towards clean environment and reducing carbon emission."

Speaking during the E-mobility agreement exchange, Saurabh Kumar said, "It is a well-established fact that EVs are the future. The country's transition towards cleaner modes of transport cannot be fulfilled without mass adoption of EVs and we are delighted to have partnered with NHPC to accelerate this movement."

A broad MoU between NHPC and EESL to explore opportunities for energy efficiency and conservation measures in NHPC is also under process.
