New Delhi: Coal India arm Bharat Cocking Coal Limited (BCCL) on Thursday said it has achieved a record single-day coal booking of about 2.37 lakh tonnes under its special discount scheme aimed at liquidating stockpiles.

Under the scheme, discounts ranging from Rs 100-600 per tonne were offered across various slabs, which received an encouraging response from consumers.

During the e-auction conducted on Wednesday, under rail mode, around 1.80 lakh tonnes of coal were booked across 45 rakes, while road mode bookings stood at about 56,850 tonnes, taking the total to 2,36,850 tonnes.

The strong uptake, particularly through rail, is expected to bolster key sectors like steel and core industries, Bharat Coking Coal Ltd (BCCL) said in a filing to BSE.

The strong response reflects the effectiveness of the company's consumer-centric policies, it said, adding that the higher booking through rail mode is expected to support key sectors such as steel and core industries.

BCCL plays an important role in fuelling the nation's steel sector, which relies heavily on coal for production and manufacturing processes. The company manages an extensive network of open-cast and underground mines across Jharkhand and West Bengal, with a particular focus on the Jharia Coalfield.
