With this expansion, BEML will now supply a total of 66 trainsets (396 cars) under Contract 5RS-DM, up from the earlier order of 60 trainsets (360 cars). The new driverless trainsets will operate on the Yellow Line corridor and will be designed to seamlessly interface with the Siemens signaling system, enhancing connectivity and improving passenger capacity across the network.

The latest order builds upon the original contract awarded in August 2023 through global competitive bidding and valued at approximately ₹3,177 crore. It includes design, manufacturing, supply, installation, testing, commissioning and maintenance of the metro trainsets for a period of up to 15 years.

BEML Limited's Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) Shantanu Roy said the repeat order underscores confidence in the company’s technical strengths. “These additional trainsets will significantly expand the operational capacity of Bengaluru Metro and support the city’s fast-growing mobility needs. BEML remains committed to delivering world-class, energy-efficient, and reliable metro solutions for India’s urban transit systems,” he said.

Each six-car trainset is built using high-tensile Austenitic stainless steel and is equipped with roof-mounted air-conditioning systems for enhanced passenger comfort. The rolling stock incorporates safety and technology features such as IP-based passenger information and announcement systems, onboard surveillance, LCD route maps and automatic doors synchronized with platform screen doors.

This order follows a previous contract amendment issued by BMRCL in March 2025, valued at around Rs 405 crore, for 42 additional metro cars for Reach 6, which expanded that contract from 53 trainsets (318 cars) to 69 trainsets (360 cars).

BEML remains the largest rolling stock supplier to BMRCL and continues to support Bengaluru’s expanding mass transit infrastructure as the city moves toward advanced, driverless metro operations.
