New Delhi: State-owned Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) on Wednesday announced that it has secured four major thermal power projects from Adani Power Limited, with a combined order value estimated between Rs 20,000 crore and Rs 28,000 crore, excluding GST.
In a regulatory filing, BHEL said it had received orders for four projects, each comprising two 800-MW thermal power units, representing a total generation capacity of 6,400 MW.
The company valued each project at Rs 5,000 crore to Rs 7,000 crore, excluding GST.
Under the contracts, BHEL will supply key power generation equipment, including boilers, turbines, generators and associated auxiliary systems, along with agreed services for the projects.
The orders represent a significant addition to BHEL's thermal power equipment business and reinforce its position as a major supplier of power generation technology to India's electricity sector.
Adani Power, part of the diversified Adani Group, is India's largest private-sector thermal power producer. The company currently operates 18,110 MW of installed thermal generation capacity across 12 power plants in Gujarat, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand and Tamil Nadu. It also operates a 40-MW solar power plant in Gujarat.
BHEL, a Maharatna public sector enterprise, is among India's leading engineering and manufacturing companies, with operations spanning power generation, transmission, renewable energy, oil and gas, transportation, defence and aerospace.
The latest contracts underline continued investment in thermal power capacity as India seeks to meet rising electricity demand while maintaining grid reliability alongside the expansion of renewable energy.
BHEL's exchange filing did not specify the locations or execution timelines of the four projects in the information disclosed.
