New Delhi: Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has entered into a strategic tie-up with Norway-based Hystar AS to enable phased indigenisation and local manufacturing of Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) electrolyser systems for green hydrogen projects in India.

The agreement is aimed at strengthening BHEL’s capabilities in the emerging green hydrogen sector and enhancing its project execution capacity for green hydrogen projects in the country.

BHEL had earlier entered into a strategic tie-up with thyssenkrupp nucera India for alkaline electrolyser systems. The collaboration with Hystar for PEM technology will enable BHEL to offer both alkaline and PEM electrolyser solutions, strengthening its position in India’s emerging green hydrogen market.

The partnership is also expected to support the development of domestic manufacturing capabilities for PEM electrolysers, in line with the government’s focus on indigenous clean energy technologies and the Make in India initiative.

The company is leveraging its engineering, manufacturing and project execution capabilities to expand into emerging clean energy segments, including green hydrogen.
