New Delhi: State-owned engineering giant Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has reported a consolidated net profit of Rs 134.70 crore for the third quarter (Q3) of FY 2024-25, more than doubling from Rs 60.31 crore in the corresponding period last year. The robust growth in profit is primarily attributed to higher revenues, as per a regulatory filing with the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE).
BHEL’s total income for the quarter ended December 31, 2024, increased by 32 percent, reaching Rs 7,385 crore, compared to Rs 5,599.63 crore in the same period last year.
BHEL achieved several significant operational milestones during the third quarter. The company completed synchronization of Unit #1 and Unit #2 of the 6x170 MW Punatsangchhu-II Hydro Electric Project in Bhutan, as well as Unit #1 of the 5x800 MW Yadadri Thermal Power Station. Additionally, Unit #1 of the 2x660 MW Khurja THDC India Limited project achieved full-load operation, with BHEL responsible for the turbine-generator package. In the naval segment, BHEL successfully completed Harbour Acceptance Trials (HATs) for the first upgraded Super Rapid Gun Mount (SRGM) on board INS Nilgiri.
The quarter also saw BHEL securing several high-value contracts across power, industry, and export markets. In the power sector, BHEL emerged as the successful bidder for the main plant package of the 3x800 MW Telangana Stage-II Supercritical Thermal Power Plant and received a Limited Notice to Proceed from NTPC Limited for initiating basic engineering.
In the industry segment, the company won a significant order, in collaboration with Hitachi Energy India Ltd., for the +/- 800 kV, 6,000 MW Khavda-Nagpur HVDC Terminal Stations along with AC transmission systems. It also secured an EPC contract for a 765 kV air-insulated substation package and various substation extension orders for 400 kV and 765 kV ratings. Additionally, the company received orders for transformers, an 80 MW steam turbine generator for a chemical manufacturing company, and 689 traction motors with 27 sets of traction electrics for the Indian Railways. Further, BHEL received a development order for high-power lithium-ion cells from the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre.
In the export market, BHEL continued its global expansion with an order from Russia for the supply and supervision of a 95 MW generator and a contract for safety valves for a project in Costa Rica, marking its entry into the 91st export market.
