New Delhi: The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved a payment of Productivity Linked Bonus (PLB) equivalent to 78 days’ wages for non-gazetted railway employees. The bonus, amounting to Rs. 1865.68 crore, will benefit 10,91,146 staff members and is paid annually before Durga Puja/Dussehra to “motivate the railway employees for working towards improvement in the performance of the Railways”.
The Railways’ 2024-25 performance was exceptional, achieving a record cargo loading of 1,614.90 million tonnes and transporting nearly 7.3 billion passengers, as noted by the Cabinet.
“In recognition of the excellent performance by the railway staff, the Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi today approved payment of Productivity Linked Bonus (PLB) of 78 days for Rs.1865.68 crore to 10,91,146 railway employees,” govt said in a statement issued Wednesday.
The PLB, equating to 78 days’ wages, entitles each eligible employee to a maximum amount of Rs. 17,951. The bonus will be paid to various categories, including Track Maintainers, Loco Pilots, Train Managers (Guards), Station Masters, Supervisors, Technicians, Technician Helpers, Pointsmen, Ministerial Staff, and other Group 'C' employees.
The Productivity Linked Bonus (PLB) payment for 2025 will be credited to eligible railway employees before the Durga Puja or Dussehra holidays, following the tradition observed every year. The exact date has not been specified in the official notices, but the payment is always scheduled ahead of these major festivals.
