Coal production jumps 18.6 percent, touches 78.65 MT in October

New Delhi: India’s coal output increased 18.59 percent to 78.65 million tonnes (MT) in October as opposed to 66.32 MT produced in the corresponding month of the previous fiscal year, said the Ministry of Coal in an official statement on Friday. The cumulative coal production in the April-October period of the current fiscal stood at 507.02 MT as compared to 448.49 MT during the same period in FY2022-23, attaining a growth of 13.05 percent.

Coal India Ltd's coal production in Oct rises 15.36% y-o-y

Coal India Limited (CIL), which mines the lion's share of coal in India, saw its production grow to 61.07 MT in October as compared to 52.94 MT in October 2022, with a growth of 15.36 percent.

Coal despatch rises 18.14 percent y-o-y in October

Coal despatch in October rose 18.14 percent as it reached 79.30 MT, up from 67.13 MT recorded in October 2022. Coal India dispatched 61.65 MT coal in October as opposed to 53.69 MT in October 2022, representing a growth of 14.83 percent. The cumulative coal despatch (between April and October 2023) has seen a significant jump to 541.73 MT as compared to 483.78 MT during the corresponding period in FY2022-23, with a growth of 11.98 percent.

"The surge in both coal production and dispatch underscores the nation's advancing energy self-sufficiency and reinforces our determination to meet forthcoming energy demands," said the Coal Ministry.

"The Ministry of Coal remains resolute in its commitment to ensure continuous coal production and distribution, thereby securing a dependable energy supply that bolsters the nation's ongoing development," the ministry added.
