According to an official statement, the steel-cutting ceremony was officiated by North Star Shipping's Chief Technology Officer James Bradford, marking the official beginning of the vessel’s construction. The event was attended by senior CSL officials, including Sreejith K. Narayanan Director (Operations) and Harikrishnan S, Executive Director (Shipbuilding), along with representatives from the classification society DNV.

The 68-meter hybrid-electric SOV has been designed by VARD AS, Norway, and is the first of two such vessels being constructed by CSL for North Star Shipping. The vessel, classified as DP2, will be powered by three Yanmar diesel main generating sets integrated with high-capacity lithium-ion batteries. It will also be equipped with Voith electric-cycloidal propulsors and an advanced Walk-to-Work system from SMST, enhancing its operational efficiency in the offshore wind sector.

Once commissioned, the vessel is expected to revolutionize service, maintenance, and operational tasks within the offshore wind industry. Designed to meet the rigorous demands of the sector, the vessel will accommodate up to 54 personnel, including specialists and crew responsible for wind turbine maintenance. Additionally, it will serve as a floating warehouse and logistics hub, supporting offshore wind energy infrastructure.

Through this project, CSL reaffirms its commitment to global collaboration and technological excellence, reinforcing India’s position on the global shipbuilding map. The company continues to be a key player in the development of next-generation, sustainable maritime solutions, further solidifying its reputation as a leader in the industry.
