New Delhi: Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) has signed shipbuilding contracts with Svitzer, Denmark, for the construction of four fully electric 26-metre ‘TRAnsverse 2600E’ tugs, the company informed in a regulatory filing. The agreement, signed on December 5, 2025, includes an option for up to four additional vessels.
The 70-ton bollard pull electric tugs will be built in Kochi according to Svitzer’s specifications and will support the Danish operator’s global fleet renewal programme and ongoing transition to next-generation sustainable towage operations. Delivery of the first vessel is scheduled to begin in late 2027. Based on the contract value, CSL has classified the order as “Significant” under its internal order classification parameters.
This development follows the Letter of Intent signed between the two companies on October 31, 2025. The partnership integrates Svitzer’s expertise in advanced marine towing solutions with CSL’s shipbuilding capability, skilled workforce and innovation ecosystem.
CSL said the contract aligns with India’s ambition to emerge as a global maritime manufacturing and skills hub under the Maritime India Vision 2030, Maritime Amrit Kaal Vision 2047 and the government’s “Make in India” initiative.
The company clarified that none of its promoters, promoter group entities or group companies have any interest in the order-awarding entity, and the contract does not fall under related-party transactions.
