Even as Renewable Energy (RE) forms around 42 percent of the total installed capacity, the share of RE in total power generation remains nominal at 12 percent. India is relying mostly on coal to meet its growing energy demand with coal-based generation capacities contributing around 77 percent to the total energy generation.
