The foundation stone for the project was laid virtually on December 29 by Secretary, Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Pankaj Jain, in the presence of EIL Chairman and Managing Director Vartika Shukla, functional directors and senior officials of the company.

The project is being developed with EIL’s own investment and is designed to produce 5 tonnes per day of compressed biogas. The plant will process around 125 tonnes per day of press mud sourced from sugar mills and aggregators, using bio-methanation (anaerobic digestion) technology.

The compressed biogas produced at the facility will be supplied to HP Oil Gas Private Limited (HPOIL) and made available for end use, particularly for vehicular applications, through HPOIL retail outlets in Kolhapur. The project is expected to contribute to reduced carbon emissions and increased adoption of renewable fuels in the transport sector.

In addition to CBG, the plant will generate fermented organic manure and liquid fermented organic manure as by-products, supporting sustainable agriculture and circular economy practices.

According to the company, the project aligns with EIL’s strategy to expand its presence in sustainable energy infrastructure and supports national initiatives such as SATAT, Atmanirbhar Bharat and India’s long-term energy transition objectives.
