New Delhi: State-owned NLC India Limited announced the commencement of commercial operations of the third 660 MW unit of the Ghatampur Thermal Power Project in Uttar Pradesh, marking the full commissioning of the 1,980 MW power station.

In a regulatory filing, NLC India said that Neyveli Uttar Pradesh Power Limited, its joint venture with Uttar Pradesh Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited, achieved the Commercial Operation Declaration (COD) for Unit-3 of the project with effect from 00:00 hours on June 13, 2026.
NUPPL is a joint venture between NLC India, which holds a 51 percent stake, and UPRVUNL, which owns the remaining 49 percent.
With the declaration of commercial operations for the final unit, the Ghatampur Thermal Power Station, comprising three units of 660 MW each, has been fully commissioned and brought under commercial operation.
The company said the milestone would significantly enhance the availability of reliable power supply in Uttar Pradesh while contributing to meeting the country's growing energy demand.

The commissioning of the third unit has also increased the overall installed power generation capacity of the NLC India Group from 7,745 MW to 8,405 MW, strengthening its position in India's power sector.
Located in Uttar Pradesh, the Ghatampur Thermal Power Project is one of the major thermal power projects developed to support the state's rising electricity requirements and improve energy security.
