Govt reviews performance of NCL in Varanasi, sets coal production target

Varanasi: A meeting was chaired by Union Minister of Coal and Mines, Pralhad Joshi on Tuesday in Varanasi to assess the performance of Northern Coalfields Limited (NCL). NCL, a subsidiary of Coal India Limited, plays a significant role in India's coal production, contributing to 14.7 percent of the country's coal production and 10 percent to domestic power generation. The focus of the meeting was on achieving a coal production target of 133 million metric tons (MT) during the ongoing fiscal year 2023-24.

NCL has already achieved 105% of its coal production target

During the review, it was noted with satisfaction that NCL has already achieved 105 percent of its coal production target and 102 percent of coal offtake. This accomplishment demonstrates the dedication and efficiency of NCL in meeting its operational goals.

The meeting also addressed the progress made in the rural electrification of Chitrangi Block. The authorities took stock of the advancements in electrifying the region and expressed their well wishes to the company for surpassing the annual target in this area.
