New Delhi: Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) has launched a pioneering Endowment Scholarship Scheme in partnership with the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) to support meritorious students from economically weaker sections of society. This initiative, under HAL’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme, aims to provide equal access to quality education at one of India’s premier engineering institutions.

A Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) formalising the initiative was signed by HAL's General Manager (HR) Pradeep Kumar and Dean-in-charge – IIT Madras Prof. Manu Santhanam. The signing ceremony was attended by Dr. D. K. Sunil, Chairman and Managing Director, HAL; Dr. Kamakoti, Director, IIT Madras; Mr. M. G. Balasubrahmanya, Director (HR), HAL; Dr. S D Premkumar, Independent Director, HAL, along with other senior officials.

Speaking at the event, Dr. D. K. Sunil said, “HAL recognises that true progress begins with equal access to quality education. We believe that no student should be denied the opportunity to study at a reputed institution like IIT Madras due to economic constraints. By supporting deserving students from underprivileged backgrounds, HAL is unlocking their potential and empowering them while fostering academic excellence. This Endowment Scholarship Scheme is our way of giving back to society and contributing to nation-building.”

Under the scheme, HAL will provide financial assistance to 40 students over the next four years. Subsequently, 40 students will receive support each year for the next 15 years. The scholarship will benefit students enrolled in four core engineering disciplines at IIT Madras—Aeronautical, Mechanical, Electrical, and Metallurgical Engineering—who come from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.

The new initiative reinforces HAL’s longstanding commitment to inclusive development. As part of its broader CSR strategy, HAL has been actively engaged in education, skill development, healthcare, environment, women empowerment, and sports. Over the past five years, the company has contributed more than Rs 500 crore to various social and developmental causes across India.
