SJVN achieves COD of 75 MW Jamui solar project in Bihar: SJVN CMD

Shimla: SJVN has achieved the Commercial Operation Date (COD) of its 75 MW Jamui Solar Power Project in Jamui district of Bihar, the company said in a statement on Tuesday. The project has been executed through SJVN's wholly-owned subsidiary, SJVN Green Energy Limited (SGEL). Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) Bhupender Gupta said the commissioning marks "another significant milestone in company's renewable energy journey."

Project spread over 300 acres at Rs 1,342 crore

The project has been developed over approximately 300 acres of outright-purchased land near Village Hadhadiya, Kakanchaur, in Jamui district, at an estimated cost of Rs 1,342 crore. The electricity generated will be supplied to the state of Bihar.

Director (Personnel) Ajay Sharma said the project is expected to generate approximately 90 million units of electricity in its first year of operation and around 3,522 million units cumulatively over 25 years.

Tariff fixed at Rs 2.96 per unit

Director (Finance) Parthajit De said the tariff for power generated from the project has been fixed at Rs 2.96 per unit. "The competitive tariff will facilitate the availability of affordable and clean green power to consumers," he said.

Director (Projects) Rajesh Chandel said the project has created approximately 15–20 direct employment opportunities and around 5,100 indirect employment opportunities.

Developed under BREDA tender

The project has been developed pursuant to a tender floated by the Bihar Renewable Energy Development Agency (BREDA). SJVN said the project is estimated to reduce approximately 82,250.74 tonnes of carbon emissions, and described it as a contribution towards the government's target of achieving 500 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030.
