New Delhi: Indian Oil’s Refineries Division is focusing on strengthening India’s energy security and self-reliance through higher domestic LPG production, refinery integration, specialty products and green hydrogen, Director (Refineries) Arvind Kumar said.
Kumar made the remarks while addressing the 67th Indian Oil Day celebrations at the Refineries Headquarters on September 1. Employees across the Refineries Division participated in the celebrations virtually.

Highlighting Indian Oil’s role in ensuring uninterrupted energy supplies, Kumar commended the Refineries Division teams for maintaining seamless operations and energy supplies during the recent West Asia crisis. He also highlighted the increase in LPG production by nearly 35 percent, which helped reduce import dependence and strengthen domestic availability.
“We cannot choose the environment in which we operate. But we can choose how we respond to it,” Kumar said, underlining the need for the organisation to remain agile and resilient amid an increasingly complex operating environment.

Kumar said the refining sector is undergoing significant transformation, with greater integration of refining and petrochemical operations, expansion of specialty product portfolios and increased focus on sustainability.
He also highlighted the development of India’s first large-scale 10 KTA green hydrogen plant, describing it as an important step in the transition towards cleaner and more sustainable refinery operations.
According to Kumar, the refinery of the future will need to be more integrated, intelligent, energy-efficient, sustainable and resilient to respond to evolving energy and market requirements.
The celebrations also recognised employee contributions through Suggestion Scheme Awards, Swachhata Awards and Long Service Awards.
Earlier in the day, Kumar visited The Blind Relief Association in Delhi under IndianOil’s “Smiles We Spread” outreach initiative. He interacted with visually impaired students and reaffirmed IndianOil’s focus on inclusive and accessible education.
