New Delhi: ITI Limited, the country’s first public sector undertaking (PSU) established post-independence and a premier telecom manufacturing company, has collaborated with the Government of Kerala to launch Kerala Savaari 2.0, the upgraded version of the state’s online auto and cab booking platform.
The platform has formally launched by Kerala’s Labour Minister Sivankutty in Thiruvananthapuram on November 4, in the presence of Labour Commissioner Safna Nazarudeen (IAS) technical partners, labour union leaders, and media representatives.
Currently operational in Thiruvananthapuram and Kochi, Kerala Savaari 2.0 is set to evolve into a multi-modal transport system by December 2025. The platform will integrate various modes of public transport, including metro, water metro, metro feeder buses, autos, and cabs — making it the first of its kind in India. Once fully established in these two cities, the project will be rolled out across other districts and cities in Kerala.
Implemented by the Kerala Motor Workers Welfare Fund Board (KMWWFB) under the Labour Department, in association with the State’s Police, Transport, IT, and Planning Board departments, Kerala Savaari operates on a subscription-based model rather than a commission-based one. This ensures fixed government-regulated subscription rates and improved earnings for drivers.
Since its pilot phase in April 2025, Kerala Savaari has onboarded over 23,000 drivers, completed 3.6 lakh trips, and generated ₹9.36 crore in driver revenues, averaging around 1,200 daily rides in Thiruvananthapuram and Kochi.
The upgraded platform aims to become a comprehensive mobility application, integrating ticketing and services for metro, water metro, tourism, temple visits, and railway systems. Future plans also include adding ambulance and goods vehicle services, aligned with government-fixed tariffs.
Speaking at the launch, Sivankutty said, “Kerala Savaari is not just an app — it is a symbol of the Kerala Government’s commitment to ensuring worker welfare and providing safe, affordable transport for the public.”
Rajesh Rai, Chairman and Managing Director of ITI Limited, expressed his satisfaction over the partnership, stating, “ITI Limited is delighted to partner with the Govt of Kerala to launch this commuter-friendly platform. Our Palakkad Unit has been supporting the state through multiple initiatives, including supplying driving licenses and registration certificates, digitising records for the Motor Workers Welfare Fund Board, and providing laptops to schools. With Kerala Savaari 2.0, we are happy to contribute to improving commuter convenience and digital governance.”
He further added that the shortcomings from the 2022 pilot have been addressed, and ITI’s Palakkad Unit will continue to offer technical support to ensure seamless operation of the app.
Kerala Savaari remains a fully government-owned initiative implemented under the Kerala Motor Workers Welfare Fund Board in collaboration with key state departments, reinforcing Kerala’s model of inclusive, technology-driven governance.
