New Delhi: State-owned ITI Limited on Monday said that it has received recognition from the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) for its critical contribution to the successful launch of the NASA-ISRO Synthetic Aperture Radar (NISAR) satellite aboard the GSLV-F16 rocket on July 30.
The public sector telecom manufacturer, through its Palakkad unit, played a key role in the realisation of avionics systems for the mission. ITI supplied 28 Avionics Packages and 18 Head-end Mounted Safe Arm (HMSA) packages, which were successfully integrated into the launch vehicle. The systems were fabricated in line with the stringent quality standards of ISRO’s Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC).
The NISAR mission, jointly developed by NASA and ISRO, is being hailed as the world’s most expensive Earth-imaging satellite, with an estimated cost of \$1.5 billion. The satellite, weighing 2,393 kg, was precisely placed into orbit by the GSLV-F16 from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikota. It is designed to provide high-resolution data on changes to the Earth’s surface, using advanced dual-band radar technology.
“It is a very proud moment for ITI Limited to receive this appreciation from ISRO,” said Rajesh Rai, Chairman and Managing Director, ITI Limited. “The fact that ISRO has consistently reposed its trust in ITI is a shining testimony to the top-quality work delivered by our Palakkad unit. We are honoured to have supported missions such as Chandrayaan, Mangalyaan, Aditya L1, and LVM3 M2/OneWeb India-1, and we look forward to contributing to future projects, including ISRO’s prestigious Gaganyaan mission.”
Rai added that the recognition underscores ITI’s commitment to collaborating with organisations pushing the frontiers of technology.
Echoing this sentiment, Sheena Abraham, Group Director, Electronics Production Group, ESAE (Electronics Systems Actuators Entity), ISRO, said, “We laud the efforts of Team ITI, Palakkad, in the fabrication and testing of avionics packages for GSLV-F16. The unwavering support of industries like ITI, adhering to ISRO’s exacting standards, was integral to the success of this joint venture.”
ITI Limited, India’s first PSU established post-independence, has become one of ISRO’s trusted partners, regularly contributing to the realisation of avionics and flight packages for space missions.
