Pakistan's oil PSU OGDCL makes discovery of oil reserves in Sindh

Pakistan's oil and gas company has made a major discovery of oil and gas reserves in the Sanghar district of Pakistan’s Southern Sindh province

New Delhi: Pakistan's oil and gas company has made a major discovery of oil and gas reserves in the Sanghar district of Pakistan’s Southern Sindh province, officials said.

The Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) said the discovery is expected to contribute towards bridging the country’s energy demand supply gap through indigenous resources while augmenting the hydrocarbon reserves base of OGDCL and the country.

In a letter sent to the Pakistan Stock Exchange and the London Stock Exchange, the OGDCL has informed shareholders that a discovery was made in the Bobi and Dhamraki areas in Sanghar district last month.

In the letter dated June 3, the OGDCL has informed that as the operator with 100 per cent working interest in Bobi and Dhamraki mining lease they made an oil discovery from its exploratory well Bodi deep-1 which produced 2000 barrels of oil per day (BOPD) and 1.1 million standard cubic feet of gas per day (MMSCFD) at a choke size of 32/64 inch, with a wellhead flowing of 1,050 pounds per square inch (PSI).

The letter said the discovery came about on May 3, when the well was drilled to a total depth of 3,305 metres in the Sembaar Formation through OGDCL’s in-house technical and operational capabilities.

The discovery represents a major milestone in the Bobi and Dhamrqaki Mining Lease, constituting the first hydrocarbon discovery from the Massive Sand Play in the area.

"Besides establishing a new exploration play, the discovery has de-risked analogous prospects in the surrounding region, opening new avenues for future exploration and resource growth,” it said.
