RailTel secures MEA order to build data centre in Ethiopia

RailTel has secured an overseas work order from the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) for the establishment of a greenfield Data Centre in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

New Delhi: Navratna CPSE RailTel Corporation of India Ltd (RailTel) has secured a prestigious overseas work order from the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) for the establishment of a greenfield Data Centre in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, marking a significant milestone in its international expansion journey.

The project involves setting up a state-of-the-art Data Centre for Ethiopia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and is a key component of India’s support to Ethiopia’s Digital Transformation Strategy. The project is scheduled to be completed within one year, followed by three years of comprehensive operation and maintenance support after commissioning.

Commenting on the achievement, RailTel Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) Sanjai Kumar said the company is committed to executing the project with the highest standards of professionalism, quality, and reliability, while strengthening India–Ethiopia bilateral ties through digital cooperation.

The Ethiopia Data Centre project adds to RailTel’s expanding international portfolio. The company formally entered overseas markets in 2024 and has since executed MEA-funded projects, including electronic LED scoreboards in Jamaica and the supply of Make-in-India laptops for school students in Trinidad and Tobago. RailTel is also actively exploring opportunities across Africa, the Middle East, South-East Asia, and other regions, positioning itself as a trusted global digital infrastructure partner for the Global South.
