THDC, Govt of Gujarat sign MoU for Rs 13,200 crore Anjan Kund Pumped Storage Project

New Delhi: THDC India Limited (THDCIL) has entered into a significant Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Gujarat for the development of the 2,210 MW Anjan Kund Pumped Storage Project (PSP) in Dang district, Gujarat. The project, with an estimated investment of Rs 13,200 crore, marks a major milestone in advancing India’s renewable energy infrastructure and strengthening grid stability.

The MoU has been exchanged in the presence of Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendrabhai Patel on October 9, during the Vibrant Gujarat Regional Conference held at Mehsana. The event also witnessed the participation of Union Minister of New and Renewable Energy, Consumer Affairs & Food and Public Distribution Pralhad Joshi, Gujarat Finance, Energy and Petrochemicals Minister Kanubhai Desai, Chief Secretary Pankaj Joshi (IAS), Additional Chief Secretary (I/C) Manoj Kumar Das, (IAS), Additional Chief Secretary (Energy & Petrochemicals) S.J. Haider (IAS), NTPC CMD Gurdeep Singh, and several other senior officials and dignitaries.

Speaking on the occasion, THDCIL's Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) RK Vishnoi termed the agreement a “milestone achievement” and reaffirmed the company’s commitment to expanding India’s renewable energy capacity. He said the project reflects THDCIL’s vision to develop large-scale energy storage systems that will enable round-the-clock renewable power and ensure grid stability.

Highlighting the company’s leadership in the sector, Vishnoi noted that THDCIL had earlier developed India’s largest pumped storage project, the 1,000 MW Tehri PSP, demonstrating its proven technical and operational expertise in executing such complex projects.

Under the terms of the MoU, the Government of Gujarat will extend necessary State-level facilitation and clearances, while THDCIL will lead the project’s planning, development, and execution.

The MoU has been signed between Gujarat Power Corporation Limited's (GPCL) Managing Director (MD) Ajay Prakash (IAS) on behalf of the Government of Gujarat and THDCIL's Executive Director (I/C, NCR) Neeraj Verma on behalf of THDC India Limited. THDCIL's Special Officer (Former Special Commissioner, Govt. of Gujarat) AK Vijay Kumar and senior THDCIL officials, including GM (PSP-Solar) MK Jain, AGM (PSP-Solar) SK Mittal and AGM (I/C, WPP) Shiv Raj Chauhan were also present during the ceremony.

THDCIL also showcased an interactive exhibition stall at the event, which drew substantial visitor engagement and highlighted the company’s achievements in hydropower and renewable energy development.
