New Delhi: Infrastructure firm Megha Engineering and Infrastructures (MEIL) has found a place in the Limca Book of World Records and Asia Book of Records after it completed a power substation project in a record time of seven months. MEIL was building the substation for state-run power major PowerGrid Corporation of India Ltd (PGCIL) and was recognised because it completed the substation in incompatible weather and.

The firm was tasked with building NP Kunta sub-station to connect Ultra Mega Solar Power Plant built in Ananthapur district, which is located in the Rayalaseema region of Andhra Pradesh, with Power Grid, to facilitate the supply of 1,500 MW of electricity.

The project would have normally taken 15-18 months

The 400/220KV power substation was built in half the stipulated time period, five months ahead of the scheduled deadline, while fulfilling all the quality parameters, a statement released by MEIL said. The project would have otherwise taken about 15-18 months for completion, but "MEIL could complete it within a span of 7 months as per Power Grid Corporation requirements," said MEIL director B Srinivas Reddy. "To achieve this record-breaking performance, we mobilised additional resources, machinery. At the same time our engineers and field staff worked for three shifts (24 hours)," he added.

Construction work for the power substation at NP Kunta started in September 2015 and completed in April 2016. PowerGrid, for whom this project was built, lauded MEIL's performance and awarded 'Best Debutant Award.' MEIL has also previously secured a spot in the Limca Book of World Records for completing the Pattiseema Lift Irrigation project in record time.
