New Delhi: SJVN Limited is set to achieve commercial operation of Unit-II (660 MW) of its 1,320 MW Buxar Thermal Power Project in Bihar on September 12, marking a significant step in strengthening the company’s power generation capacity.

The commercial operation of the unit is scheduled from 00:00 hours on September 12, through SJVN’s wholly owned subsidiary SJVN Thermal Private Limited.

Located at Chausa in Buxar district of Bihar, the Buxar Thermal Power Project comprises two units of 660 MW each and is being developed using supercritical technology. The technology is designed to improve generation efficiency while reducing the environmental impact of thermal power generation.

SJVN completes 72-hour trial run of 660 MW Unit-2 of Buxar Thermal Power Project

The project is expected to generate 9,828.72 million units of electricity annually. Of the total generation, 85 percent power has been allocated to Bihar under a long-term Power Purchase Agreement.

The commissioning of Unit-II is expected to enhance power availability in Bihar and the eastern region, particularly during peak-demand periods, while contributing to improved energy security.
