SJVN completes 72-hour trial run of 660 MW Unit-2 of Buxar Thermal Power Project

New Delhi: SJVN Limited on Monday said that it has successfully completed the 72-hour trial run of Unit-2 of its 1,320 MW Buxar Thermal Power Project in Bihar.

The 660 MW Unit-2 completed its prescribed 72-hour trial run on August 31, 2026. With the successful completion of the trial operation, SJVN is now set to commence the process for commercial operation of Unit-2, according to the company.

SJVN Chairman & Managing Director (CMD) Bhupender Gupta congratulated the employees and stakeholders on the successful completion of the trial run. The company said the achievement reflects the efforts of its teams in overcoming various challenges during the project’s execution.

SJVN Director (Personnel) Ajay Kumar Sharma described the successful trial run as another significant milestone in the company’s journey and appreciated the team’s hard work, professionalism and commitment.

Director (Finance) Parthajit De said the successful trial run would further strengthen SJVN’s generation portfolio and reinforce its position as a multidimensional energy company contributing to India’s sustainable energy growth. Director (Projects) Rajesh Kumar Chandel also termed the achievement significant for SJVN’s thermal power journey.

Project based on supercritical technology

The 1,320 MW Buxar Thermal Power Project is being implemented by SJVN Thermal Private Limited (STPL), a wholly owned subsidiary of SJVN. The project comprises two units of 660 MW each and is based on state-of-the-art supercritical technology, which is designed to provide higher efficiency and reduce environmental impact.

The project is also equipped with advanced emission-control technology aimed at minimising its environmental footprint. Once fully commissioned, the project is expected to generate approximately 9,828.72 million units of electricity annually, contributing to the country’s growing power requirements.
