New Delhi: A day after headlines about an incident involving a Zomato delivery executive hogged headlines, Thursday was the day when many users thronged on Twitter to boycott Uber Eats with #BoycottUberEats for standing in support of its competitor.
A day earlier a customer who placed an order on Zomato app had refused to accept delivery of the order because the delivery executive was a Muslim. The food delivery app then came out in support of its employee, which elicited a heart-warming response from the Twitterverse. Many had extended their support to the food delivery app, including Uber Eats.
On Thursday, Uber Eats tweeted: "@ZomatoIN, we stand by you." in response to one of the tweets by Zomato. Zomato, on its part, responded with a hug emoji.
However, the exchange triggered #BoycottUberEats as many Twitter users came out to support the man who had refused to accept delivery from a Muslim delivery executive. Many people also posted screenshots from phones after un-installing both Zomato and Uber Eats and attacked the food delivery services for their "secular" behaviour.
