New Delhi: In the run-up to the last phase of the 2019 General Elections, as the battlefield in seven constituencies of West Bengal heat up, social media is witnessing a meme war of sorts. In the aftermath of the arrest of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) youth wing leader Priyanka Sharma for posting a morphed image of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's face on Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra's, Twitter is abuzz with memes.

While Sharma could have been booked for defamation, sending her to judicial custody for 14 days was perceived as a step too draconian in comparison to the nature of the crime committed. Twitter reacted to Sharma's arrest by flooding social media with more memes that take a potshot at the incidents of violence reported from Bengal and call into question her promise to save democracy.
