New Delhi: Ajay Verma has assumed charge as Executive Director (Projects) of THDC India Limited (THDCIL) on October 6. Prior to this, he was serving as Executive Director/Head of Project of the 444 MW Vishnugad-Pipalkoti Hydro Electric Project (VPHEP) since 2023.
In his new role, he will provide overall leadership and strategic oversight to THDCIL’s hydro-thermal project portfolio, encompassing both ongoing/under-construction as well as commissioned projects.

A seasoned civil engineering professional with over 38 years of rich post-graduation experience, Ajay Verma graduated from M.S. Ramaiah College, Bengaluru, in 1988. He subsequently obtained a Post Graduate Diploma in Construction Management from Delhi Productivity Council, New Delhi, in 1998, and a Post Graduate Certificate in Project Management from IIM Indore in 2015.
Verma joined THDC India Limited on July 30, 1990, as an Engineer (Trainee) and has since built an extensive and distinguished career spanning more than three decades. During his long association with THDCIL, he has contributed across diverse and critical functional areas, including Rehabilitation, Construction, Corporate Contracts, Vigilance, Spillway works of Tehri Dam, and Planning & Quality Control of Koteshwar Dam.
As Additional General Manager, he successfully led the commissioning of the 3×8 MW Dhukwan Small Hydro Electric Project, ensuring its timely completion. Subsequently, at the 1320 MW Khurja Super Thermal Power Project (KSTPP), he headed Contracts Management and the Ash Dyke Package, contributing to the execution of key components of the project.
Under his leadership as the HOP of 444 MW Vishnugad-Pipalkoti Hydro Electric Project (VPHEP), the project witnessed significant progress in project execution and achieved several critical milestones. His tenure at VPHEP was marked by effective decision-making and adept handling of complex technical, geological, contractual and social challenges associated with the execution of a major hydropower project in the Himalayan region.
