Akhilesh Pathak assumes charge as Director (Projects) of Power Grid

New Delhi: Akhilesh Pathak has assumed charge as Director (Projects) of Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL) with effect from September 30.

Pathak’s appointment to the post was conveyed by the Ministry of Power through an order dated September 30. He will continue as Director (Projects) until his superannuation on May 31, 2028, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

Pathak was recommended for the post of Director (Projects) of Power Grid by the Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) panel on June 30. He was selected from the list of 12 candidates, who were interviewed by the PESB panel.

Following his assumption of charge, POWERGRID’s Board of Directors approved his appointment as Additional Director {Director (Projects)} at its meeting held on September 30. With Pathak taking charge, Power Grid Chairman and Managing Director Burra Vamsi Rama Mohan relinquished the additional charge of Director (Projects).

Pathak is a graduate in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Mangalore University, Karnataka, and completed his engineering degree in 1991. He has also undertaken the Harvard ManageMentor Program conducted by Harvard Business School.

A power sector professional with more than 32 years of experience, Pathak has worked across transmission system planning, project execution, project management, business development and strategic infrastructure development. He was part of Power Grid’s first batch of Executive Trainees in 1993 and has held several key leadership positions in the organisation.

His experience includes the development, execution, monitoring and commissioning of extra-high-voltage transmission lines and substations. During his tenure in Power Grid’s Project Management Department, he contributed to capital expenditure utilisation, asset capitalisation and transmission line additions, while also working on the resolution of critical project implementation issues through stakeholder coordination and project monitoring.

Pathak also led the Arun-3 SAPDC Transmission Project in Nepal, where he addressed cross-border, regulatory and geographical challenges. He has contributed to POWERGRID’s business development activities, including expansion of consultancy services and revenue growth initiatives.

Prior to assuming charge as Director (Projects), Pathak was serving as Executive Director, OSD (Projects) at Power Grid. His professional experience spans project management, transmission infrastructure development, international projects, business development and strategic leadership.
