New Delhi: Burra Vamsi Rama Mohan has assumed charge as new Chairman & Managing Director (CMD) of Power Grid on Wednesday. Prior to this, he was serving as Director (Projects) in the same organisation.
As per an order issued from the Ministry of Power (MoP), Vamsi’s term of appointment will be from the date he assumes charge of the post– April 1, 2026- till the date of his superannuation on July 31, 2030, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

Vamsi was recommended for the top post of Power Grid by the Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) panel on December 13. He was selected for the post from a list of nine candidates who were interviewed by the PESB panel.
Vamsi is an engineering graduate with a Postgraduate Diploma in Management, has previously served as COO (Telecom) & OSD (Projects) in Power Grid. He has also completed the Harvard Manage Mentor (HMM) Program and undertaken courses from the esteemed Indian School of Business. Additionally, Vamsi has also served as CEO of POWERGRID Teleservices Limited, where he was instrumental in expanding the telecom business and kickstarting work on Power Grid’s first data Centre.

With over 30 years of rich experience in the power and telecom sectors, Shri Vamsi has expertise in project implementation and procurement management. His deep understanding of the power sector’s regulatory framework led him to be a founding member of Power Grid’s Regulatory Cell. As a key architect, he played a pivotal role in Power Grid’s entry into competitive bidding, a strategic move that positioned the company successfully within the competitive market.
