ES Ranganathan assumes charge as Director (Marketing) of GAIL

ES Ranganathan, who was serving as Executive Director (Marketing) of GAIL (India) Limited, has assumed charge as Director (Marketing) of the Maharatna PSU on Wednesday

New Delhi: ES Ranganathan has assumed charge as Director (Marketing) of GAIL (India) Limited, a Maharatna PSU under the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas (MoPNG), on Wednesday. Prior to this assignment, Ranganathan was serving as Executive Director (Marketing) in the same Maharatna PSU. He was also holding the additional charge of Managing Director of Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL). According to a DoPT order issued on June 19, Ranganathan has been appointed on the post of Director (Marketing) of GAIL for the period with effect from July 1, till the date of his superannuation i.e. May 31, 2023, or until further order whichever is earlier.

Earlier, PSU Watch was the first news organisation to report when Ranganathan was recommended for the post of Director (Marketing) of GAIL by a PESB panel on March 5. He was selected from the list of three candidates, who were interviewed by the selection panel. Currently, Gajendra Singh is holding the position in the organisation.

Career and background

Ranganathan is an engineering graduate (BTech in Instrumentation and Control Engineering) from NSS College of Engineering, Palakkad, Kerala. He has also done MBA in Marketing from IGNOU. Ranganathan was posted as Executive Director (Corporate O&M) in GAIL (India) Limited, where he has worked for over three decades and involved in the construction of Dahej-Vijaipur, Vijaipur-Dadri and Bawana Nangal Pipeline Projects.

As Managing Director at IGL, Ranganathan spearheaded the expansion of operations into Haryana, UP and Rajasthan and also entered in an international foray into New Yangon Project in Myanmar. He is actively involved in various industry forums in India and overseas, including Member Technical of Fluid Control and Research Institute, Member of Coordination Team of Indian Standards for Metering Design and Construction of Bureau of Indian Standards. He was a consultant to ADB in revamping of Gas Pipeline System in Afghanistan and has also represented the country in Pipeline Operators Forum based in the Netherlands.

Ranganathan has been conferred with the Forbes India Leadership Award 2019 for his role in leading IGL. He has also adjudged the winner in star PSU category in Business Standard Annual Awards 2019.
