Days before superannuation, GAIL’s Ashutosh Karnatak joins APTEL as Member

New Delhi: Ashutosh Karnatak, Director (Projects), GAIL, has resigned from his post at the PSU and has joined APTEL (Appellate Tribunal for Electricity) as Member. "Consequent upon resignation from the post of Director (Projects), GAIL (India) Ltd to join at the post of Technical Member (Petroleum and Natural Gas) in the Appellate Tribunal for Electricity under PNGRB Act, 2006, Dr Ashutosh Karnatak, CPF No 234 stands relieved from the services of GAIL (India) Ltd. on the closing hours, today i.e. 21st May, 2020," said GAIL in a regulatory filing to the stock exchanges.

Karnatak was appointed Technical Member (Petroleum and Natural Gas) in APTEL in February this year and assumed charge of the new position on Friday. APTEL is the designated appellate body that hears appeals against the orders of central and state electricity regulatory commission and oil regulator PNGRB.

Karnatak appointed for a three-year term in APTEL

The Centre has appointed Karnatak, who was supposed to superannuate from GAIL next month, for a three-year term in APTEL. The APTEL position was earlier occupied by BN Talukdar, who retired on December 31, 2019.

Karnatak's career

Karnatak holds an electrical engineering degree from HBTI, Kanpur, and is a post-graduate from IIT, Delhi. He is a fellow doctorate of UPES, Dehradun and has over 37 years of experience in the hydrocarbon sector. He had been heading the Maharatna PSU, GAIL's project execution and operations, and maintenance function as Director (Projects) for the last six years.
