The selection meeting, held on Friday, saw five applicants appear before the board. The candidates included Vippagunta Rama Manohara Rao, Director (Finance), RailTel Corporation of India Limited; Vivek Jaiswal, Principal General Manager (Enterprise Business), BSNL; R Venu Gopal, Senior General Manager, BSNL; Krishna Mohan Srivastava, Senior General Manager & Business Area Head, BSNL (Sitapur); and Dr. Ajit Kumar Thakur, Executive Director (Alternate Energy), Indian Oil Corporation Limited.

After the interviews, PESB stated that it did not find any candidate suitable for the post. The Board has advised the Administrative Ministry/Department to take an appropriate course of further action for the selection process, including the option of forming a Search-cum-Selection Committee (SCSC) or any other method as deemed fit with the approval of the competent authority.

The decision indicates that the process of finding a new CMD for ECIL is likely to take longer, as the ministry now has to initiate alternate measures for filling the top position.
